»All cities are the same, only Venice is a bit different«
Miroslav Sasek's declaration of love to Venice
Traveling with Miroslav Sasek in the »Serenissima«: We take the gondola through the Canale Grande, admire the Doge's Palace and many magnificent palazzi under a bright blue sky, roam the countless alleys and canals, walk across the Rialto Bridge and experience the city with »acqua alta «. We meet postcard sellers and market people, gondoliers and of course the tourists fluttering around the pigeons on St. Mark's Square ...
"All cities are the same, only Venice is a bit different," Friedrich Torberg's aunt Jolesch already knew. The great Miroslav Sasek loved Venice - and the enthusiasm with which he strolled through this almost unreal beautiful city is reflected on every page of this book.
"Where are the cars parked? How is traffic regulated? What does a petrol station look like there? Are there buses, taxis and street cleaning services? And what do the residents do during floods? Sasek answers all these questions in his high-contrast illustrations, which are always done by friendly-looking people people are populated. But his tour also shows in great detail the many historic squares, canals, churches and palaces of Venice - the Palazzo Dario, the Ca' d'Oro, the Piazza San Marco and the Doge's Palace."
