With the great Miroslav Sasek in the »Eternal City«: From the traces of antiquity – the Roman Forum, Pantheon, Colosseum, the Emperors – to the colorful life in Rome in the 1960s with its baristas and the residents happily rattling by on their Vespas. Sasek pays a visit to the most Roman Romans in Trastevere, but of course also to St. Peter's Basilica, the Fontana di Trevi at night and the crowded Sistine Chapel. He introduces theology students from all over the world and elegant carabinieri, enthusiastic spaghetti eaters and sullen wine merchants. We see white laundry drying against a bright blue sky, palm trees on rooftop terraces, oranges in backyards, and pyramids made out of Chianti bottles... All roads lead to Rome, but this book is undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable ways to explore the legendary city. Originally published in 1960, Rom is a loving facsimile edition of the original, augmented with an appendix containing information and dates about Rome today.
Miroslav Sasek (1916-1980) was born in Prague. Originally an architect, he began to write children's books. After the communists took power in 1948, Sasek emigrated to Munich, where he worked at Radio Free Europe between 1951 and 1957. He later moved to Paris, where he lived until his death. Already published: MUNICH, PARIS, LONDON, ROME, NEW YORK and VENICE.
